Parking was a mess. They let extra cars sit in the driveway, which made it extremely hard to get in and out of our paid spot. It took five maneuvers each time. The king bed took up practically the whole room, and the shower water never got hot, only tepid at best. They didn’t offer a discount for the inconvenience, just an apology from the young woman at checkout.

Reserve parking ahead of time because spaces are limited. The neighborhood is easy to walk around, and the rooms are spacious with super comfortable beds. We loved the fresh breakfast selection, and dinner is a must: excellent food and service. Say yes to the wine pairing!

Bayeux made a perfect base for seeing the D-Day beaches and museums, and Bayeux Shuttle is worth checking out if you want a guided tour. We spent two nights at Le Lion d’Or at the start of our two-week trip through France and Italy. The hotel is gorgeous, very clean and well equipped. Our room and bed were just right after 30 hours of travel and being awake. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, and dinner at La Table du Lion was incredible, especially the desserts we’re still talking about. The bar serves Calvados, a Normandy specialty, and the cider was fantastic too. The area is beautiful and easy to get around. We’d love to come back to explore more of Normandy and would absolutely stay at Le Lion d’Or again. Highly recommend.

This historic hotel, filled with photos and signatures from military leaders and Hollywood stars, was a comfortable base for exploring Normandy. The rooms have been updated, and breakfast was extensive, though the granola and yogurt seeds weren’t put out and the decaf coffee was only powdered. Unfortunately, the restaurant wasn’t open for dinner during our visit. It was still a lovely stay.

I’ve never complained about food or service, especially when traveling abroad, but this restaurant was a bad experience. Service was painfully slow. Couples who arrived after us were served and finished their meals before we got ours, and we were repeatedly ignored. The wine smelled like dirty socks, though they insisted it was good. The veal was overcooked and the sides weren’t good either. My husband finally went to the grocery store while I stayed to pay, and getting the bill settled alone took almost twenty minutes. A waste of time and money, with awful service.
