Campanile Beaune

The bed was comfortable and clean, and the shower was great, but the rest of the place felt like renovation had stalled. The room was very old and not especially clean, though it was so worn down that it seemed mostly decrepit. The walls had cream popcorn decor with patches of glossy and matte paint. The photo of reception and the café is cleverly angled, and the pool is about the size of two double beds. The rooms are motel-style, with a roller shutter and sheer fabric inside instead of curtains.

At checkout, the receptionist insisted we’d had dinner and breakfast at the hotel for all eight of us and said we had to pay, even though we hadn’t eaten there at all. Earlier, she had also argued that our reservation was for four rooms instead of three. She was trying to charge us for services we hadn’t used or requested. It made me wonder if they do this to every foreign visitor. Don’t use this place.

The rooms are classic motel style, simple but clean and comfortable, with a good bed, air conditioning, and what we needed for a short stop. We found the restaurant surprisingly good, with freshly prepared food, nice beers, and a pleasant outdoor dining area. After a long drive, the outdoor pool was great for unwinding, and the fast EV chargers on site made the journey much easier. This Campanile was easily the best of the several Campanile’s we stayed at on our way to the South of France. A restful, convenient overnight stop.

Small rooms, but clean and fine for one night on a road trip. Decent hotel, good breakfast, and friendly staff.
