Hôtel Résidence La Cour du Bailli

A lovely hotel in a charming little town, with clean, well-kept rooms. Breakfast was a bit disappointing.

I expected an authentic Alsatian stay from the advertising, but the place felt more like a tourist trap. The restaurant's meals were poor quality, with frozen vegetables and ingredients that didn't feel like the fresh regional food you'd expect in Alsace. The atmosphere also missed the local culture, which was one of the main reasons I picked this hotel. If you're after a genuine French or Alsatian experience, I'd look elsewhere. This place didn't meet the standard I'd expect for the region.

The food at La Cour du Bailli was genuinely delicious and well prepared, but the service was distracting and frustrating. When we asked for the dessert menu, our waiter, a middle-aged man with gray hair, dropped it on the table and ran off without a word. Earlier, he'd cleared a plate we weren't finished with without asking. The whole thing felt rushed and awkward, and took away from the meal. With such a charming setting and good food, the service felt completely out of place, and not what you'd expect from French hospitality.

One star for the service and staff trying to scam us. We booked and paid the full amount on the hotel's own website, and the confirmation email said it was paid. At checkout, a staff member claimed it was only a card authorization and said that was their standard procedure. He asked me to pay again, which I refused. The woman checking out just before me did pay again because she believed what she was told. Our room was old and not as clean as expected. It was directly above the spa, which was very noisy. The spa was meant to close at 7 pm, but people were still there at 11 pm. There was no heating in February in Alsace, and it was cold.
