Le Château de Bernesq

We'd be glad to come back. The peaceful setting, lovely building, smart room, and delightful breakfasts made our three-night stay with my wife a pleasure. Since we were the only guests, dinner wasn't being served at the restaurant, but we got a very good nearby recommendation and they made the booking for us. Breakfast is set up as a shared buffet with other guests. We've found that kind of arrangement can work well or not, though it didn't affect us this time as we were alone. We were surprised the hotel was so quiet, given how lovely and fairly priced it is.

Dinner was the standout for me. I've been visiting this part of Normandy for over 30 years, and this was probably the best food I've had here. The quality stayed high day after day. Meals are served at one table with the other guests, which felt intimate and peaceful. We met some wonderful people, and I selfishly liked that dining was kept just for guests, though the hotel could probably do very well opening it to others too. The staff were kind, helpful, and quick to respond, and they made us feel at home. The chateau's location is another big plus: it's surrounded by beautiful rolling Normandy countryside, with misty mornings and lovely sunrises and sunsets visible through the huge suite windows. Even so, the landing beaches, Bayeux, and St Lo are only about a 20-minute drive away. A very positive recommendation from me, and I'll definitely return.

The rooms are nice, though I wish breakfast were at separate tables instead of shared with other residents. The garden's layout is a little odd and it wasn't especially pleasant. The owners should make a much clearer distinction between this business and the problems at the nearby haras, which they formally owned.

A peaceful, intimate palace and a lovely place to get away for a change of scenery. It's newly opened, so I hope it finds plenty of guests. I recommend it!
