Hôtel Villa Koegui Biarritz

My room was at the back, so it was very quiet, and the bed was big and comfortable. I slept really well. The hotel is small, around 15 rooms I think, clean and cute, on a peaceful side street while still being central. Lots of places are just a minute or two away on foot. At check-in, the friendly staff explained breakfast and asked if I wanted anything in particular. She also marked a few places on a town map for me. I’d definitely recommend it.

The bed was really comfortable, and there was no noise from other guests. It’s in a good spot, close to Biarritz’s main shopping street, and the staff were friendly. We’d definitely stay again if we come back to Biarritz. And the shower was one of the best we’ve ever had in a hotel!

Villa Koegui had several problems during our stay. The hot water started out almost boiling, whichever way we turned the tap, and took about 15 minutes to reach a normal temperature. We were told to “use the tape bottom properly” and that someone would come later to check it. There was renovation work in the neighboring building, with dust, early noise and the smell of paint in the rooms facing it. Other rooms looked out the other way, where there was no painting or renovation, but they were occupied. We had no way of knowing we needed to “fight for them.” We could also hear everyone using the lift from our room next to it. There are no lift halls on the upper floors, so people stood right outside our door, near the bed, talking, walking and using the lift. Those rooms cost the same as the others. The receptionist said she couldn’t move us that day. If a different room became free the next day, she suggested we “talk about it again.” The renovation was obvious from the first minutes in the room, as was the lift noise. During the neighboring work, this hotel costs about the same as hotels of the same category without these issues. There’s no need to spend a summer holiday sleepless, breathing paint fumes and in a bad mood. Life is short ;)
