La Caravelle

The food was excellent, almost like a tasting menu or fine dining. We felt so comfortable and welcome that I wished we could have stayed longer. Our room was lovely, with a direct view over the lake, a stunning sight to wake up to, and the staff were really friendly.

We had lunch here as a family and loved the terrace seating right by the lake. The service was friendly and amazingly quick, even with quite a few other guests around, and our orders came almost immediately. The food was delicious and inventive, with moderate prices. The fish wasn’t overcooked, as often happens at busy lunchtime restaurants, and the beef cuts were high quality. If you like goats cheese, try the warm goats cheese salad. Very highly recommended.

The lake views are amazing, and the hotel sits right beside one of France’s largest freshwater lakes. We loved the attentive, professional, and very friendly owners and staff. The menu features local fish, meat, and vegetarian dishes, and there’s a good choice of wines at prices that won’t leave you feeling stung. You can eat indoors or outside, and it seems like a lovely place for a romantic weekend. We didn’t get a chance to see the bedrooms, but judging by the owners’ attention to detail, I suspect they’re first class. One of my ten favourite French hotels. Amazing place and people.

The room was clean, but at this price I expected air conditioning, especially during summer days above 40 degrees Celsius. The toilet’s water tank is inside the room and makes a lot of noise at night. After 6 pm, kitchen smells drift into the rooms, making it uncomfortable to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view. The food was pretty bad. Even though dinner was included, we chose to pay extra and eat elsewhere. I’d avoid it.
