Le Moulin du Fief Gentil

Florence made our visit special, from fitting in an extra room at the last minute to answering our questions and sharing her enthusiasm for the Loire region. Her castle and winery suggestions were great, and the French dinner she prepared for guests one evening was delicious and reasonably priced. She speaks English and German too. The rooms are spacious, with a lovely garden and pond view, and guests can use a lounge with coffee, tea, and a fridge. A real gem of a B&B. We’d love to return.

The breakfast here is generous and far beyond the usual coffee and croissants. Florence Heurtebise also serves a three-course homemade dinner if she offers one, and it was as good as meals we’ve had in Loire Valley restaurants. We ate in a room that looks through glass toward a waterfall flowing from the pond shown on her website. The property is lovely, and the rustic rooms are cozy, with beamed ceilings and en-suite bathrooms. A charming, distinctive B&B.

Evenings by the lake, with wine and time to unwind, were a favorite part of our stay. Florence was a delight and knew so much about the area. She seemed to understand what we wanted to do each day and helped point us in the right direction. The B&B exceeded what we expected.

The only little drawback was that the Wi-Fi didn't reach our bedroom, though it was available in the common room and that was fine. Our room was large, clean, and had nice amenities. Breakfast was fantastic, and Florence, our hostess, is a gem who speaks very good English. If you can, take the dinner option with her!
