Hôtel Club Le Risoux

The location is the real draw: walk about 15 minutes and you can cross into Switzerland, with cowbells carrying over from the surrounding fields. The accommodation feels like an aging hostel, with a bath but no shower. Dinner is the same fixed three-course menu each night, and the bar is limited. Still, location, location, location.

The room looked out over green countryside stretching toward Switzerland, and the hotel's position near the border makes it a handy base for winter sports or summer hikes. We also woke to the peaceful sound of distant cowbells. The setting is beautiful and the price was affordable, though the facilities feel dated and could use modernization. We arrived after an exhilarating journey at 8:15 PM, when the restaurant was technically closed. The staff kindly made an exception and served us a simple meal: local potato pie with bacon, dessert, and a carafe of basic red wine. The hotel sits against a mountainside and has a rustic feel. We found the welcome warm and the service friendly, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a rustic stay in the Jura Vaudois area.

The owner was very kind, even after we changed our reservation several times, sorry again! With the indoor pool, table tennis, billiards and other activities, it's a great place for a couple of family nights. It also works well as a base for summer or winter sports.

The rooms were spotless and the staff made us feel very welcome. We had a great stay, and the location and service were both excellent. I'll definitely come back in winter.
