Appartement Chapeau Rouge

We ended up at this bistro after passing on L’entrecote because the queue was too long. After wandering around for a bit, we chose this place instead. There was just one waiter handling everything, and he did it very well. He was kind and ready to help while we struggled a little to understand each other's language. I went for the three-course menu, starting with cured meats and then duck confit. There was plenty of meat and a decent amount of salad, and the wine was really nice. The duck was cooked beautifully, just like I'd seen on TV. The skin against the plate was a little overdone, though I do like crispy duck. My girlfriend had the burger and liked the clever mix of chicken, fillings and brioche-style bread. Both mains came with a mountain of chips. They were good, but a third of that amount would've been plenty. We both left most of them because we'd had enough of the main part of dinner. For dessert I picked the crumble, curious how the French version would be. It had oranges or something instead of what I'm used to in the UK, but it was nicely done and served hot. My girlfriend got a chocolate mousse or something like that and liked it too. Nice food, modest place, impressive prices and service. I'd come back for lunch next year if I'm around, and I'd recommend either lunch or dinner. You could even stop in just to buy a bottle of wine and give them some business. You don't need the money, a restaurant with some heart does! You won't find me at L’entrecote, look here instead. (Satire intended.) FOUR STARS

The three-course fixed menu runs Monday to Saturday for 23€, with options including fish and chips, roast chicken and pork. Their crepe gourmand is huge. It's a great traditional bistro, with generous servings, excellent food and really lovely staff.

The menu is simple and basic, but the dishes are tasty and portions are good. Service is friendly and helpful, with a nice vibe, and the terrace is great. If you're after something fancy, this may not be your spot. But for a hearty dinner in the sun or an evening soaking up the city atmosphere, la Folie Rouge fits the bill.

We had such a nice night here. The atmosphere was cozy, the waiter was super nice, and the food was amazing. The desserts were especially delicious. We'll be back!
