Hôtel La Madeleine

The price was low for such a good location, though the hotel itself wasn't very good.

It was reasonably priced, and we were welcomed warmly with useful advice. The central location is right by the tram, and the bedding was comfortable and clean. One thing to know: the shower and toilet are in the room, so there's no privacy, and the room isn't soundproof. Floorboards creak, and hallway footsteps carry through, so earplugs might help. 😉

I booked this Bordeaux hotel for a colleague, and she had a disgusting stay. When she went to bed, she found the bed covered in bedbugs. We moved her to another room, but it was even shabbier, and after the incident she didn't sleep at all. Although we had booked two nights, we left the next day while the owner yelled that there'd be no refund and that the room would be rented again. We complained to Booking.com, but the owner denied everything and charged us for the second night, which we hadn't stayed. Sir, you're a bastard.

The welcome was very warm, and the building has a lot of charm. My room, unfortunately, wasn't up to standard: its bathroom had no ceiling and was integrated into the room. There was construction in the room next door, and I had to put up with the noise while paying full price. It might suit people who aren't as concerned about privacy.
