I booked L'Invitation au Voyage partly because of the glowing breakfast reviews, so I'm perplexed by them. What we got was a basket with one croissant, a few pieces of bread and preserves, a small yogurt, and coffee. That doesn't add up to a continental breakfast, and service didn't impress either. We had no room cleaning at all during our four nights. They cite “health measures,” though other hotels and B&Bs seem to have worked that out. Service is part of what a B&B offers. The towels were worn and rough for the price. Our room was quaint and bright, with high ceilings and French doors facing the street, and the location is reasonably close to Bordeaux's main landmarks. Breakfast also wasn't served until 8:30 AM, which is awkward when many tours gather at 9:00. I'm also concerned by the proprietor's combative replies to criticism, quoting terms from emails after non-refundable deposits are paid. We received our first email only three days before arrival. I know because all the messages are saved on the booking platform. Be aware that the property requires cash. We had prepaid everything except the City Tax through our booking, but the vendor couldn't accept payment, saying Expedia Group was censuring them. They expected us to cover the extra international transfer fees. Beware!

The distinctive neo-classical decor gives the place real character, with an elegant style that still feels comfortable and welcoming. L’Invitation au Voyage is right in the heart of Bordeaux, so exploring on foot is easy. I stayed a few months ago and especially appreciated the attentive, genuine welcome. I felt more like a guest than a customer. I'd gladly return and recommend it to anyone looking for a distinctive stay in the city.

Fabrice was a friendly, helpful host, and the secure parking was a real plus. We spent 4 nights in the Palais room, a lovely room in classic French style, with very creaky floorboards that will wake anyone else in the room if you move around. It's in a great spot, within walking distance of everything. There was some street noise at night and in the morning, but that's to be expected in the city centre, and many other streets are worse. Breakfast is simple, with croissant, coffee, juice, bread, and jam. If you want an apartment in Bordeaux and don't need room service or all-inclusive, this is a great option. Remember, they only take cash, no cards.

For a very attractive price, we got a cozy, spotless, quiet room, close to all kinds of shops. The owner himself prepared and served a carefully chosen breakfast, and there was safe parking too. What more could you ask for?

The owner was helpful and very nice, and brought out a generous continental breakfast every day. We stayed in a quiet neighborhood in a lovely old house that's in great shape. The large, well-equipped rooms have a fridge, dishes, an iron, and even a dishwasher, so you really could live there. Rue St. Catherine is only two minutes away, and Place de Bourse is a 15-minute walk.
