Sweet Home Bordeaux Gare St Jean

The dinner menu was limited and quite pricey, but the fish was delicious, cooked just right and nicely presented. Breakfast had lots of fresh, appealing options. Our room was clean, quiet, comfortable, and nicely decorated, with a safe and mini fridge. The mattress was good, though its plastic-backed cover made me sweat, and the undersized bottom sheet bunched up whenever I moved. Getting around was easy, with the D tram stop across the road and the station a five-minute walk away. I got there around 9am and asked to leave my bag until the 2pm check-in. They kindly offered me a clean room that was ready straight away.

The staff are great, and breakfast has a lovely selection of local food. I always feel welcome here. It's close to Bordeaux station, but the lively streets nearby don't make it too noisy. Highly recommended.

This place badly needs renovation. The AC didn't work, the basin pipe was blocked, and the shower drained so slowly that water overflowed while I was using it.

The one good thing was the secure underground garage. The hotel itself felt dirty and dated, and gave me the impression it was being run by three students. I was very disappointed. The other Novotel in the center is much cleaner and better. Avoid this one, it definitely doesn't feel like a four-star hotel.
