The rooms were surprisingly quiet and comfortable, thanks to those 3 ft thick castle walls. Each one has its own playful theme, and the owner showed us around. Queen Victoria once stayed here, too. The food had the same fun spirit as the rooms. A lovely spot right by Lake Bourget, near Chambery.

We had the Klimt room, and honestly didn't want to leave the balcony. It was huge, bright, and looked straight over Lac De Bourget. The hotel itself is amazing, and the Jacouzy bath was one of the best I've ever been to. We had dinner there too, and it was perfect.

The lake views were great, and there’s a nice walk down to a small port. It’s a beautiful old chateau turned into a hotel, and our room had an interesting character, though the facilities felt a bit basic. The restaurant was closed, and coffee and tea were only available on the landing, not in the room. For the price, that wasn’t what we expected.

The wine picked on the chef’s recommendation was even better than the meal, which was excellent, with subtle Japanese touches alongside his classic French training. We’d booked the grape picking advertised on the website and went out early with the friendly proprietor after a delicious light breakfast. The medieval chateau is now an elegant, quirky boutique hotel with just 7 bedrooms. We were lucky to get a last-minute restaurant table when someone cancelled at the Swimming Cat, le chat qui nage. A really enjoyable day.

The views were beautiful, the staff attentive, and breakfast was indulgent. It’s an amazing place with a lot of history. Would love to come back!
