We were walking the gr 9 and got there around 16:45, where we were able to get a drink. The hotel and restaurant are among the few places along the route where you can get food, and the valley is about an 8 km walk away. They told us they were fully booked for both rooms and the restaurant, and there was no chance of getting even a small bite later. I’ve been walking in the mountains for 45 years, and this is only the second time a restaurant has refused even basic help like bread or an omelet. They were friendly, but showed no empathy for hikers. It’s a shame, and not the helpful friendliness France is known for. Call ahead and come by car, I guess. The restaurant could be sold out. The bigger the hotels get, the less help they offer.

Lovely setting. It’s a family-run hotel, and the restaurant seems popular with locals.

Such a shame. They were open and serving food, but still wouldn’t sell me an ice cream. The location is great.

It’s a welcome place to stop in such a remote area, but it’s disappointing when it isn’t open. That’s why I’m holding back a star.

What makes this simple hostel special is its authenticity and natural beauty, not luxury or pomp. It’s clean and welcoming, and the owners are friendly. The landscape around it is magnificent, with forests, gorges, and mountains.
