Auberge du Col de Brouis

There’s a tree-lined car park right out front, and the place sits on the Col, the pass between Breil and Sospel. It’s run by a Danish guy and his family, though the menu is mostly French. We found the service very friendly, and they do a Sunday BBQ. A nice stop for lunch or coffee, and they have rooms as well. Could be a good one to pair with a walk nearby.

Be sure to email ahead if you want dinner, it’s delicious and well priced. This is a charming little guest house, with modern bathrooms and fans for warm summer nights. A must if you’re in the area.

I was a bit unsure when I found this place online, since Google Maps made it look very isolated. But after the challenging ride up on my motorbike, I was glad I came. The old chateau is lovely, right up in the mountains, and the twisty roads are fun whether you’re on a bike or in a car. The English owners were very accommodating. My room was clean and tidy, with an ensuite bathroom and everything I needed. They also served a great fixed meal and a homemade aperitif. I’ll definitely stay here again on my next trip, especially since my usual chateau in Tende just up the road was booked.
