Oceania Brest Centre

The bread at breakfast, not the baguette, was so good it was worth the stay. The rest of breakfast was a bit of a letdown, and the bacon and sausages seemed to have been cooked twice. Still, there’s a lot to like here. The room service was perfect, and the bathroom products were high quality. The bar and attached restaurant were excellent, and the English-speaking staff were great. There’s also a fitness club included, about 300m away, and it’s much better than those hotel gyms with just one exercise bike. The hotel’s right in the center of Brest but surprisingly quiet. Whatever time I needed something, I got an answer. Highly recommend 👌

We stayed four nights and found the hotel spotless and comfortable. Breakfast was good each morning, and the central Brest location made it easy to get to everything. But the customer service left a lot to be desired. Our key would let us into the room once, then fail when we returned, so from the fifth floor we had to go back down for another. Reception acknowledged the door was faulty, but after a while we felt like a nuisance. No one fixed the issue or offered anything for the inconvenience. I also told the receptionist that housekeeping had left our door open. He said he’d ask them to be more careful, but seemed indifferent to the mistake and to our belongings. Such a pity.

The facilities felt worn and looked nothing like the photos, and reception was frustrating. I needed food before taking medicine for severe back pain, but the man there said the kitchen was closed and couldn’t be opened. He treated it like a bank vault, though there wasn’t even a safe in the room. He offered no other way to help, so I had to wait until dinner to take my painkiller. You’re pretty much left to manage on your own.

The busy streets are right outside, but with the windows shut you don’t notice them. It’s in a good spot, the room was a good size, and breakfast had plenty of variety. The staff were very friendly and helpful, so overall I had a good stay.
