La Ferme Martzloff

The reason for my one star is what happened on checkout. We spent two hours cleaning the fridge, stovetop, bathrooms and other surfaces, then vacuumed and mopped. We stripped the beds and put the sheets in a laundry hamper to make changing them easier. After we brought out our luggage, our cousin, who had stayed there before when the mother was proprietor, walked through with us. In front of my mother and brother, the daughter berated her over a mirror that hadn't been wiped and a vacuum bag that hadn't been emptied. Both were easy things to fix, but the daughter demanded sixty euros to do them herself. Her rudeness upset my cousin and the rest of us, especially after all the cleaning we'd done, and it cast a shadow over that part of our trip. During our stay, the daughter had also been curt with us, though we didn't make an issue of it. We were there over a week, usually went to bed early, cleaned up after ourselves daily, and never complained about a few noisy nights with partygoers. The rooms themselves were comfortable and clean, the farm was beautiful, the bus to Strasbourg was nearby, and there's a delicious bakery next door. The mother, who had run the place for quite a while, was wonderful, sweet, and quick to suggest tasty places to eat. Still, we left feeling upset. There are plenty of other lovely gîtes to rent nearby, so I wouldn't stay here.

We lost our car in an accident, and a week before our two-night stay we asked to cancel and get a refund. The request was refused. We were students then, so the financial loss on top of losing the car was significant.

We had a wonderful two nights at Ferme Martzloff. Everything was spotlessly clean, the rooms each have their own decor, and the garden is beautifully kept. Breakfast was fantastic, and you can ask for eggs from their own chickens. There’s a small, lovely pool too. Christiane and her parents were so friendly and helpful, and explained everything. Three restaurants are right next door. A park-and-ride nearby has inexpensive garage parking, with trams into the city center every minute. Thank you for such a perfect stay!
