Savoy Hotel

Breakfast and the bed were good, but the check-in wasn’t ready on time. There was no internet on our first night, and the floor felt very squishy. The sauna needs to be booked in advance by time slot, and there’s nowhere to relax afterward.

The breakfast setup was disappointing too. It was meant to start at 7:30 a.m., but the tables weren’t ready and cups and cutlery were missing. There was no hand soap in the rooms, so we had to buy some at a shop. The hotel also had problems with its hot water supply. We’d stayed here in 2018, so we booked again in November 2021. Then, in mid-December, the French government announced a travel ban affecting visitors from the U.K. We contacted the hotel straight away to ask what would happen to our booking. We hadn’t cancelled it, but couldn’t cross the border from the UK into France. Getting an answer was a struggle. Reception was open for only two hours in the morning and two in the afternoon, and outside those times we got the answering machine. When we reached someone, we were told the general manager was on holiday and nobody else could answer. We called every day. Laureen at reception said she was asking the manager for an update daily, but he still hadn’t given her one. After nearly a week, we finally got the email address for Mr. Gilbert Cadet, the general manager. We asked for a voucher to stay later in the year, not even a refund. Two days later he replied that the hotel would follow the purchase terms and conditions, and wasn’t responsible for the French government’s decision. He also said we knew about covid when we booked and chose to go ahead. I find that ABSOLUTELY unacceptable. We ended up taking the loss because of a decision by the government of the country where the hotel is based. I believe this kind of situation is usually considered force majeur and isn’t covered by the standard terms and conditions. The way the hotel handled this felt unethical and made it seem like they didn’t care about their customers. They don’t deserve to run a business. I would NOT recommend staying here, especially during covid, because they don’t adapt when circumstances change and will basically blame you.

The staff were kind without getting in your way, and the village was close by. The atmosphere was just right. I still can’t get over how good dinner smelled and tasted. I’d love to return for at least a week. Go with friends.

The food was good, and everything was clean and nice. The lift is a bit strange. In the ski storage room, a couple of benches would help, since the two chairs aren’t comfortable.
