Hôtel Hermitage

The food was lovely, with classic dishes given a Savoyard touch and local options like fondue. The staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I came for dinner, and would suggest booking ahead since many skiers eat early. I'd recommend it if you're nearby.

We found a table while looking for somewhere to eat. The wine was exceptionally good, but the food disappointed: my steak was chewy and overcooked despite asking for medium rare. The onion soup wasn't great either, it tasted like it had been made with chicken or vegetable bouillon cubes instead of a rich beef stock.

We came from Germany for the Spartan Race Winter Sprint, from 26.01.18 to 28.01.18, and the staff were especially friendly to Germans. The hotel worked really well as a base for the race in Valmorel, about a 20 minute drive along main roads. We'd book again for another trip there. Our dog was welcome, with the stay included in the room price. The rooms were great, and very quiet at night unless you left the window open. There are only French TV channels, but the fast free WiFi meant you could watch your own TV stations online. The hotel's bar serves snacks like burgers, fries, bread, and oysters, plus vegetable dishes. Compared with the nearby bars, prices were fair and portions ranged from enough to big. We paid around 50 € for three burgers with fries, bread with cheese, and drinks.

The food was really tasty, and both hosts made us feel welcome. Great service, with plenty of humor.
