Le Château de la Vierge

The price ended up being the big disappointment. We booked with the owners and later saw the same rooms on booking.com for half what we’d paid. For that rate, the limited setup was hard to accept: there’s no lift, so luggage has to go up two flights of stairs, the mattress wasn’t very comfortable, the soap hadn’t been replaced, and the toilet was tucked into a tiny recess in the wall where the door barely shuts. Those things might have felt like part of the charm at a fair price. The house itself is a lovely old, slightly faded place, set in a beautiful garden with great views from every bedroom. The owners were very welcoming and helpful from the start, and it feels like being in someone’s home rather than a hotel. Still, the room pricing spoiled our stay.

We spent the night in this beautiful place in southwest Paris while saying goodbye to Olivier’s Aunt, who was 105. It’s a great stop if you’re travelling to or from the south.

Friendly, wonderful service made this feel like more than an ordinary hotel stay. The Château is beautiful and had a warm, welcoming feel.
