Hôtel de L'Univers

This little bed and breakfast is right in the heart of Caen, overlooking the main canal, and makes a handy base for exploring the area. It’s reasonably priced and the French breakfast was great, with hot chocolate, good coffee, fresh bread and croissants. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Inside it’s very compact and there aren’t facilities, but the room was spotless and comfortable. The entrance hall and stairs could use a lick of paint. I’d recommend it to budget travelers who don’t need all the amenities of a resort hotel.

The bus to the ferry is just a short walk up the road, and the trams are convenient too. Staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke good English. Our room was clean and comfortable, with everything we needed for the night, including a kettle.

A comfortable place at a perfect price. The sheets and towels were always clean, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. It was a nice place to stay. Thanks to everyone who works there! (Grand Blonde:))

The location is good, but the rooms were filthy. The bathroom was unacceptable: the shower drain was blocked, and the bottom of the shower curtain was stained with mold and mildew. They also don't serve breakfast on weekends until 8:30 am.
