Hotel de la Paix

The price is a great deal, and the location and staff attention are both good. There isn’t much else to add. The bed was too small for anyone over 180 cm tall, and the hotel has no elevator, so it’s unsuitable if you have limited mobility. French hotel bathrooms seem to have something wrong with them, as I’ve found something broken or working badly in every one I’ve come across.

The people at reception were especially kind, and made sure we understood what the hotel offers before we decided to stay, even though we’d just arrived without a reservation. For the city center, it’s hard to beat the price. The room and bathroom were clean, and the WiFi worked very well for remote desktop with no lag. I didn’t try streaming. The Italian restaurant terrace across the street can be a little noisy, but I didn’t mind, and I didn’t miss having an elevator. Breakfast is simple but enough to keep you from being hungry, and I doubt you’ll find better value nearby. A great base for travelers in Normandy.

The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable, and the hotel is right in the center of town. WiFi worked fine for email, but I couldn’t stream BBC iPlayer, and there weren’t any English-language TV stations. I booked because the listing mentioned parking, but it turns out the parking is paid, in car parks around the city.

Check-in was smooth, getting inside felt secure, and the WiFi was very strong. I only had trouble getting hot water when I tried to shower late in the morning. Perfectly fine hotel.
