Hotel La Consigne

Such a nice stop for a meal after getting off the train, or before catching one. The food was good, the owner was friendly, and there’s a sweet dog who’s very happy to get belly rubs!

The room was spotless, and the station is only about a minute away on foot. I got in at 9:30 at night and left early the next morning. I’d forgotten to tell the hotel when I was arriving, but the staff were kind about it and confirmed the time by phone. Someone even waited for me and made sure I was settled. :)

The room felt like a shoebox, and after a hot day out it got stuffy fast. It’s not the small size by itself that bothered me, but the lack of airflow made it hard to relax. There’s no air conditioning or even a fan, and the only way to change the temperature is to turn on the radiator. Opening the full-height windows meant opening the curtains too, with no screen to keep anything out and no way to block people on the street from looking in. I really wanted to give this place five stars. The staff were incredibly accommodating, the attached bar served delicious, well-prepared food, and the hotel was clean and ideally placed by the station. I’m torn about the rating, but I could barely stand staying in the room. If airflow isn’t an issue for you, and you can check in by 22:00 or call to confirm, the location and value are hard to beat.

The carpet was dirty and the bathroom needs attention. The toiletries smelled like cheap men's cologne. There’s no AC and no elevator, and the train and bus stations make it noisy. On the plus side, it’s close to the trains and rental cars, and they let me check in early even though the official check-in time is 5pm.
