Brit Hôtel Cahors Nord

I’m looking at booking this hotel again for our next drive to Spain. Last time, it was my first thought for an overnight stop, but our stay was cut short by the farmers blockading the border on the Monday. We left around 3:30 am to avoid getting stuck and couldn’t really make the most of the place. There wasn’t much the hotel could have done to improve things: we’d changed our travel plans and booked only a few hours before arriving after 9 pm. The person who would have been on reception came from home to help us check in, and I couldn’t have asked for better service. We’d originally planned to stop in Limoges, but changed course to cover more distance and get nearer Spain for an early border crossing. Cahors fit the bill, so I found this hotel in a quick search and booked it. Reception had closed at 8 pm, and after a lot of frustration I found a phone number to call. The person on the other end spoke about as much English as I speak French, so there were plenty of silences and ums and ers before he came back to help. The out-of-hours check-in machine wasn’t working either, but he soon fixed it. I barely had time to judge the room: I lay down, then my alarm went off at 4 am for us to continue the drive. I wasn’t happy here and left a day early, even though they still charged me for the full stay after I emailed and spoke to reception about changing the booking. I moved to the BRIT Hotel instead, which cost 8 euros more and was 5x times better. At first I’d thought this place was good for the money, but there are better options in Cahors. It’s poorly located if you’re not driving and very basic, perhaps fine for one night but not longer. The staff weren’t friendly and communication was difficult. A hotel serving international guests should have someone who can communicate. Their very French 'if you don't like then tough' attitude may charm some people, but I found it dated and unhelpful.

It’s your choice what to pay for. This place isn’t expensive and it’s clean, but it’s oddly situated and has no extras.

It did the job, and the staff were helpful.
