The location at the top of the old town was okay, but the hotel itself is tired and mostly unmanned. Our room had a badly angled wall right beside the bed, making it dangerous to get in and out. There was only one power point, a triple outlet, and it wasn't near the bed. The bed was hard, and the Wi-Fi was poor. There were obvious maintenance problems too: a curtain hanging off its hook, torn hallway carpet that could trip someone, and a broken toilet roll holder. The worst part was finding that my AirPods had been stolen from our room while we were out one morning. When I raised it with staff, she wasn't helpful.

The hotel's history is the real draw for me, with its rooms built into the remains of a 14th century palace. The location is hard to beat, and it's a wonderfully unusual place to stay. The rooms are small and there's no AC for summer, though the standing fan did the job well enough. It's run by a family, and the lovely Remy seemed to do everything, from carrying bags to working reception and serving breakfast. A really cool stay.

After a full day walking el Camino, it was such a relief when Rémi carried my luggage up to my room. He also suggested some great restaurants. The service was wonderful, and I highly recommend the hotel.

From outside, the place looks charming, but my room felt badly outdated and the linens seemed at least ten years old. I think the whole hotel needs renovating. The staff are very strict about pets and breakfast service, and they don't seem to appreciate guests who don't speak French.

Everything worked as it should, and the service was attentive. The setting and location were beautiful, and we had a lovely stay. What a treat.
