Hotel Meurice

The only real drawback for me was the weak shower pressure in room 227, which made showering a bit of a chore. Everything else was great. I’ve stayed here on and off for about 15 years, and the new owners have renovated it to a high standard. The staff welcomed us warmly; rooms are large, fresh, clean and beautifully decorated, with towels changed and rooms cleaned immaculately every day. There’s plenty of parking right outside. Rue Royale, with its bars and restaurants, is an easy walk, and the square and seafront are a little farther.

We come to Calais often, and when we fancy treating ourselves, we always choose the Meurice. The inside decor is fantastic, classy without feeling pretentious, and the bar is a delight. Everyone on staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is excellent quality and great value. We had a Deluxe room, well worth the extra, with one of the comfiest beds I’ve ever slept in. Already looking forward to coming back.

I’ve been coming to Hotel Meurice since I was a baby, for over 30 years. It was always a pleasant stay, and felt magical when I was a child. On my last visit a couple of years ago, I got to share that feeling with my own three children. The hotel is easy to find and well located, with secure underground parking available and street parking that’s easy to access. The rooms are always clean, the building has lots of character, and the staff are all very pleasant. Breakfast is lovely and tasty. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

Booked directly with the hotel. Great decor and a big room, plus a good location. If I’m in Calais again, I’ll definitely consider staying here.
