The room was comfortable, the bed very comfy, and the heater actually worked really well. After a recent extensive renovation, the hotel also has modern, very clean bathrooms and fast, reliable free WIFI. Breakfast was more than adequate. I’d happily recommend staying here for a night or longer, especially as a base for exploring the Cathar Castles in the region.

The Muscat aperitif was delicious, and the 2014 rosé was excellent. After that, though, the meal was a letdown. We had dinner for two on Monday evening, March 18, 2019. The starter was snout in a small dish with just a sprig of salad. The turkey sauté with wild mushrooms came in very large boiled pieces, with canned peas that weren’t extra fine and a pasta gratin that seemed to have been baked several times. The calamari had no taste and was covered in a bland sauce, with the same side as the turkey. Dessert came straight from the fridge: stale sponge clafoutis from the previous day, though at least it had a few canned pears. Chef, clafoutis is meant to be served warm! The business has apparently been for sale for a while, though that’s uncertain. A new owner would have to start from scratch and find a chef to try to reverse the decline in revenue. In its current state of gastronomy, I’d avoid this place.
