Auberge de Jeunesse HI Cancale

I had a fantastic stay last week, especially because the location is so good, right by bus line 9. The kitchen was great, the Wi-Fi worked well, and guests can use a computer too. My room was short on electrical sockets, and getting up into the bunk was a bit difficult, but otherwise it was fine. The staff were kind and helpful. Special thanks to the manager, who drove over 20 minutes each way to pick me up after the bike I rented from the hostel got a flat tire. I really didn't expect that. I booked by phone after finding no openings online, so it's worth calling if the website looks full. Hope I can come back!

The rooms are very basic, with no luxury, but the location is excellent. It's beside a small natural harbor where people fish and launch their little boats on trailers at high tide. Breakfast is very French and delicious, and the shared breakfast room is especially nice, with views across the bay.

The views are breathtaking, and everything is clean and well managed. The accommodation is basic but has great amenities, and the staff are helpful and friendly. Food choices are limited, though there's enough to make a substantial meal.

We never actually stayed at the hostel. After first contacting them by email, we called to confirm the booking. Someone answered reception, and we carefully asked in broken French whether they spoke English, since we don't know French. The call was immediately hung up. We tried again right away, then once more half an hour later, but nobody picked up. It seemed like reception saw our foreign number and ignored us. We cancelled the whole thing. That's no way to treat people who might stay there.
