Avaton Hotel

Our first day in Cannes was frustrating after a full day of travel. We’d barely had a chance to enjoy it before all the hotel problems started. I hate writing negative reviews, but this stay at Avaton Hotel was a mess from the beginning. When we arrived, they had just begun replacing the lock on our room, work that could clearly have been done before guests showed up. We were allowed to leave our luggage inside even though the door wouldn’t close. The receptionist said she’d stay there and watch our things, and that the job would take 1.5 hours. She promised to call when it was finished, but after two hours there was no call. We went back, rang the bell several times, and couldn’t get in because we’d never received the entrance code. I called the receptionist, who gave it to me over the phone. She wasn’t at the hotel anymore, despite saying she’d supervise the work. The workers were doing their job and weren’t at fault. The problem was with the hotel manager or whoever runs the place. We were also given a dirty towel. The lock replacement finally took 2.5 hours, and even then we got no key or card. Instead, they said a code would arrive by SMS within an hour. The whole process felt disorganized and unprofessional. While the locks were being changed, two different workers came into our room by mistake without knocking. It may not have been deliberate, but it was very uncomfortable and showed no respect for our privacy. We only saw the manager briefly at check-in, and she wasn’t there at check-out. She didn’t explain how anything worked, including check-out, so I had to ask. We politely requested to stay a bit past 11 a.m., but she said the hotel was fully booked. That was odd, since she’d earlier told us there was only one other room booked besides ours. If it was really that full, where was everyone on staff? There never seemed to be anyone around. The room was extremely tiny, and the so-called “bathroom” was barely usable. You have to be careful just moving around in it so you don’t hurt yourself. I genuinely wish I didn’t have to say all this, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. It was very disappointing.
