Banana's Camp - Hostel

The women’s room had too many beds, and there was no ventilation even though there was temperature control and the windows wouldn’t open. The shower was the biggest problem for me: the light kept going out, and the water shut off every so many seconds, so you had to keep pressing the button. I don’t get all the great reviews, but if others like it, that’s up to them.

The hostel is nice, the rooms are good, and the location is great. The staff were friendly and helped me with everything. What brought my rating down was the crowd and the lack of atmosphere. Cannes is expensive, so there are lots of people who can’t afford a hotel but want to be here for Instagram photos, rather than backpackers. Some older guests seemed unhappy about sharing rooms, and the place felt completely dead socially. If that doesn’t bother you, I’d recommend staying here. If you want a social backpacker scene, go to Spain.

We couldn’t sleep well because the middle bunks shook whenever the person above moved even a little. The staff were grumpy and rude to us and other guests, and weren’t easy to talk to. The room and bathroom themselves were clean and nice, and the location was handy for getting around.

The location felt safe and quiet, close to the train station and the main sights, and the price seemed fair for what you get and where it is. Inside, the eight-bed dorm and bathroom were spacious, with hot showers, plenty of wardrobes and shelves, curtains on the lower bunks, and secure lockers. Ask reception for the locker keys. The kitchen was well equipped and the staff were helpful. One annoying thing: my key card took several tries to open the dorm door. Everyone in the room had the same issue, and the staff know about it.
