Hôtel Cannes Centre Univers

We found this hotel by chance and really liked it. The location is perfect, and our clean, tastefully furnished room had a stunning view of the city and sea. The people working there were the best part: Beatriz and Svetlana were especially kind and helpful, and everyone we met was friendly. We’ll definitely return.

Housekeeping ignored my do-not-disturb sign, came into the room, opened the windows during a peak heatwave, and switched off my fan. The air conditioning didn’t work either. The room also lacked basic things like water, and towel hooks and shelving were coming loose from the walls. This is literally the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. I wouldn’t return or recommend it.

I paid €200 upfront at reception and left within five minutes without staying in the room. I’m now having to contact my bank to dispute the charge because the hotel won’t return my money. I also emailed the director two days ago and haven’t heard back; even the manager of the other hotel tried to reach them. I’d been overbooked elsewhere and came here on that hotel’s recommendation, but it was the worst decision I’ve made. The carpet was stained and old, there were stains on the bed, hair on it that wasn’t mine, and the room smelled awful. I also saw mold in the AC vents, cracks in the wall and bedframe, and dirt in the bathroom tile grout. I told the manager, Svetlana. She said the carpet was old and asked whether every hotel I went to was perfect. When I pointed out the mold and bathroom dirt, she didn’t address the problems. She showed me five rooms that were just as dirty, and even turned away from some herself, saying they were too dirty. She first told me she couldn’t refund me because the banks were closed on Monday in France, then said she’d do it Tuesday. After I called repeatedly and tried to speak with management, she said on Thursday she couldn’t refund me after all. I gave her the extra day she asked for on Wednesday and still haven’t heard back. The young, dark-haired man at the front desk told me they weren’t going to steal my money, but I feel they have kept it without returning it. The room smelled of mold and mildew, and I was worried about asbestos too. This was the biggest fraudulent hotel in the South of France. I had to leave after seeing the room and have received no help.

The room was small, but it had both a shower and a bath tub. Whenever an issue came up, the staff and hotel manager were quick to help and very supportive.
