Hôtel Neptune

After just two hours in bed, I felt pinching in the dark. Around 3 o’clock I turned on the light and saw hundreds and hundreds of bedbugs covering the beds. I stripped off, put my clothes in the microwave, showered quickly, and left. I drove around looking for a laundromat in a “better” area. First I threw away everything I’d worn in bed, then washed the rest at 60 degrees and dried it on high heat. I had to cancel all my Sunday and Monday plans. I was extremely distressed and called the listed number. The man who answered was useless, spoke little English, and offered nothing. I’d never seen or encountered bedbugs before, and Google helped me get through it. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. They didn’t refund that night, and I planned to make another claim for the clothes I put in the microwave to eliminate the bugs. I was rushing to film a video because I didn’t want to spend another second in the dump, and believe me, it was 100% worse in reality. The place was infested with bedbugs, and I wouldn’t have considered it if I’d known the real situation. The pictures were nothing like the place. The area first seemed shady, with people hanging around outside, and the building felt “ghetto” when I went in. The apartment seemed unkept but initially okay. The third bed was in a closet with no airflow. There was no air conditioning or fan in August, and it was bad even with the sliding door open, but unbearable in the closet. This place should be shut down or inspected to meet even the lowest hotel standard. Please don’t give it more business.

The room was very clean and quiet, and had a nice balcony. It’s also close to a TER station and bus stops for Cannes and other cities. For the price, I had a good experience. The building felt pretty sketchy, even a bit scary, and reception was only open at certain times.

I almost stayed here this summer, but I managed to cancel after a horrible interaction with the receptionist. He was rude, swore in French, and complained that “tourists always ask the same questions.” A receptionist answering questions, apparently, was too much. He also wanted a €200 deposit, which I wouldn’t have been able to get back in cash because we were leaving before reception opened. I would’ve had to trust this strange Frenchman to send it electronically, and there was no way I’d do that. The form we were supposed to sign was stapled on top of another guest’s paperwork from several months earlier. Would give zero stars if I could.

The location is the only plus. The service was good, but the place was dirty, and someone screamed under the windows all night. The rooms looked like they’d last been renovated about 20 years ago. There was no Wi-Fi or air conditioning, and we didn’t even have a towel in the room. They still asked for a 200 euro deposit for the safety of the number.
