Atlantic Surf Hostel

Strange.

The location is good and the staff were friendly, but our room wasn’t exactly empty of company. In the superior room we counted at least 8 spiders, 2 cockroaches, and 1 moth. It also smelled unpleasant when we arrived, and the bedside lamp was covered in cobwebs. For the price, it didn’t feel worth it. With that much nature in the room, we might as well have camped. I can’t recommend it.

We really enjoyed staying here. The rooms are roomy and have a pleasant modern look, and the staff are very friendly. We also found the welcome warm and the rates reasonable. There’s bike rental nearby, as well as Leclerc, and lively Hossegor is close by for evenings out. It has what you need for a good stay.

The rooms felt like boarding school, except even there you’d expect a bin and a shower with adjustable temperature. Here it was just a chair and a desk, and there was nowhere to hang out outside the room. There’s no shared lounge, outdoor table, fridge, or way to cook. The parking lot only has four spots, too. The welcome was cold from the start. I’m not sure anyone even said hello, and the owner gave us dirty looks throughout our stay. Calling it a hostel doesn’t make it feel like one. I thought it might be their first year, but it isn’t. It seems the building was bought to compete with Joe&Joe, but buying a 1970s building alone doesn’t make that work. It’s a shame, and I wouldn’t recommend it. For €10 more, you could stay somewhere with real comfort.
