Htel du Cap

The quiet atmosphere and clean, cozy rooms made for a relaxing stay at Hotel du Cap in Capbreton. The hotel is well cared for, and the staff were incredibly kind and hospitable, making the visit memorable. It’s only a short walk to the beach. The place exceeded my expectations, and I’d highly recommend it.

The harbour view was lovely, and the couple who own the hotel were really friendly. The rooms were clean, and they were super helpful. You can also hire bikes there if you need them. I couldn’t recommend the hotel enough and will definitely look to come back.

The hotel sits right by the waterfront, which gives both terraces a lovely fresh breeze on hot summer days. It’s just in front of the harbour, about a 20-minute refreshing morning walk from the fishermen's warf, and a 10-minute walk from the city centre of Capbreton. We had an excellent short break here as a family of five. It’s a nice, quiet, family-run place with very welcoming people. The owners' son runs restaurant Va & Vin and is an excellent cook. The little desserts we tried were a real stunner, so we’ll definitely have dinner there next time. You can go eyes closed and enjoy a marvelous time around the coast, including Seignosse and Capbreton. We’ll be back.

I’ve been visiting Capbreton and Hossegor for over 20 years, and booked three nights through booking.com because I needed a central spot near the marina and beaches for a business meeting. I knew the hotel from passing by, but didn’t realize that in 2022, with the area going from 2,000 residents to over 70K tourists in summer, some hotels still had no air conditioning. The listing mentioned fans. When we arrived at 17.30, the front door was locked, so I called the hotel. The owner was in the garden shade because reception was too hot, around 37 degrees. I asked if there was at least a fan in the room. There wasn’t. They had a couple in two occupied rooms, and had thrown out the old ones, so he said he’d need to buy one for us. Seriously? After two years of Covid, couldn’t they have made sure guests were comfortable as things improved? Was it too much to get fresh fans for the rooms, when they cost around 35 Euros? I’d already paid a deposit, but said the lack of a fan could be a deal breaker. He replied that if I wanted somewhere cool, perhaps I should visit the North pole. That was so rude. He said he’d get us a fan, so we took the key and went upstairs. The room’s window faced west and got the full afternoon sun unless we closed the security shutter and sat in total darkness. I was sweating heavily after a couple of minutes. The fan wasn’t going to help. I come from a very warm climate and could tell we wouldn’t sleep for any of the three nights. I booked another hotel with A/C, at extra expense. All tourist accommodation in hot climates should have A/C these days. So we took the owner's advice and went to the 'North Pole', I guess, for a room with A/C.
