La Maison Vieille

La Maison Vieille is exceptional, and we were so well looked after. The rooms are beautiful, with fresh white linen on comfortable beds. Every morning there was a delicious breakfast with homemade items. It's ideally placed, within walking distance of the town square, shops, and medieval cite.

Breakfast was the highlight, with nearly everything homemade and fresh, even the bread. We also loved our spacious, lovely room at La Maison Vieille, which had three beds and two couches, making it a great fit for family or friends traveling together. Its windows looked onto a quiet, pleasant courtyard. The hotel is just outside the citadel, with nice restaurants a short stroll down the street. Some people may prefer to sleep inside the walls, but we found this much quieter while still being close enough for an easy walk to them. One small hassle was that they don't accept cards, which made paying a bit harder for me as a foreigner. Catherine was patient and helpful with the more complicated payment arrangements. We stayed in September and would recommend it, especially for groups.

The homemade cakes, preserves, and jams at breakfast were delicious, and the host was gracious and very accommodating. Our room was spacious and tastefully decorated. It's ideally situated between the new town and the medieval one. This was a delightful place to stay in Carcassonne, and we'd happily return.

We stayed for five nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The owner was attentive and helpful, and breakfast had plenty of choices with a friendly person there to handle requests. The rooms are enormous, each with its own theme, and yours might have either a luxurious bath or a good-sized shower. It's conveniently set between the old and new parts of Carcassonne, with free parking nearby. You really should stay here when you visit.
