Camping Le Moulin de Kermaux

The place feels a little outdated and needs maintenance. There were no English language brochures, and all the children’s entertainment was in French.

I travel in a motorhome and don’t use the static units. The shower block looks very modern, but the basics don’t work well. There’s nowhere to put anything, and just one hanger on the back of the door. You can’t adjust the shower head, so the spray soaks anything left on the hook. Every time I used it, the water was only slightly warm. For the price of the site, and with it described as five star on the sign, I expected hot water and clean floors.

The reception staff were very helpful and arranged for us to stay at Le Moulin de Kermaux right next door. That site was much more like we expected, and ideal for motorhomes and a relaxing holiday. We’d booked an XL motorhome pitch at the Grande Metairie site in Carnac, but after a five hour drive found there wasn’t enough room for a four-man tent. Access to the pitch was impossible, and the wooden chalets were so close you could have touched them from the tent or motorhome window.

During the day this is a great site with good facilities, and the kids liked it, though they were tired because they couldn’t sleep before 11.30pm. It’s a shame, but I’d never go back. We booked a week, and every night the campsite next door had a disco until 11.30pm. It was so loud across the whole rural area that we couldn’t even talk to each other. One night our campsite held karaoke that went on until 12.25am. The whole site had to listen to the terrible singing that just kept going. The office apologized the next day and said it should have finished at midnight, not 12.25am. Other late night noise included kids screaming in the toilets and getting off with each other after midnight, teens wandering around in groups, and people drinking as late as 2.30pm. The campsite is bringing in a lot of money, with loads of bungalows and campers, but there’s nobody on duty at night to help keep things quiet. It’s very noisy, hard to sleep before midnight and maybe much later. The people running it don’t seem to care about the noise. They also overcharged us by not taking the deposit off the balance. We had to go online and show proof that we’d paid the deposit before they deducted it from the final payment.
