We really valued the quiet, clean apartment, the good amenities, the setting, and the pool. The hostess was welcoming and did everything she could to make us comfortable. The host, though, ignored us throughout our two-week stay. He never greeted us and would walk past with his head turned away, seeming bothered by us. There were active cameras by the pool, in the laundry room, and on the terrace, so we felt closely watched. I'm a smoker, and smoking was banned outdoors too, including on the terrace. I understand not allowing it inside, but I'd never come across an outdoor ban in dozens of rentals. I politely said I hadn't been clearly told about that rule, and the host became furious and suggested I leave if I didn't like it. The owner also came into our apartment with a worker while we were out, without warning us first. We'd followed the no-smoking rule and left the apartment clean and tidy, so his behavior left us baffled. It could have been a perfect stay, but we found it unacceptable.
