Camping Notre Dame

We loved the location of our four-bed bungalow, within walking distance of Castellane, a very nice little town at the entrance to the Verdon valley. Eric has three children too, and he really understood what we needed during our stay. He and his family were so kind to host us at their lovely campsite. I owe Eric a very nice gesture, and we’d like to come back one day.

The owner kept pointing out that some parts were “private” and “not insured,” which made it hard to let our two-year-old explore. We stayed two nights in a tent with our daughter and didn’t feel welcome from the first day. The campsite is close to a main road, so it isn’t especially quiet. There are some play structures, but after it rained overnight they were too wet to use during the day. We understand the need to follow rules and respect private areas, but basic courtesy and hospitality should still be there, especially at a place that says it welcomes families. We won’t be back and don’t recommend it.

Castellane is a lovely town, and the gorge is breathtaking whether you drive or cycle through it. At the campsite, the pitches are flat, the WiFi is free and good, and it’s well placed for both town and gorge. The facilities were fine and there was plenty of hot water. The owner was super friendly and went out of his way with local tips and advice. There was a great mix of nationalities while we were there, which made for a really friendly atmosphere. Pitches and groceries are good value. We wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend.

Free WiFi that actually worked well, and unlimited hot water for showers. I had worried about getting stuck because rain was forecast, but the owner kindly guided me into a parking spot that would make it easy to leave the next day. A lovely welcome at this small campsite. I hope to come back soon.
