Domaine de Rambeau

We usually like trying somewhere new, but Domaine de Rambeau is special enough that we came back for a second stay. This visit was just as enjoyable as the first, and we'd love to return and try the gite one day. This time we booked dinner as well as breakfast. Both were fantastic, with generous portions and fresh ingredients. The homemade yoghurt and their own honey were especially good. We shared a large family room that was spacious and well appointed. The owners are charming, welcoming, and attentive. The pool area is spectacular, the nicest one we've ever used. The house is about 1.5 hours from Bordeaux airport.

The owners were lovely otherwise, but during the fierce hailstorm it felt as if they'd forgotten we were guests. The room was far too hot on the first night because they didn't turn on the air conditioning, and for some reason we couldn't control it ourselves. Before a wedding the next day, we asked three times for an ironing board, which arrived only half an hour before we had to leave. Then, when we got back at 2am, our room door was locked. It took 20 minutes to wake someone so we could get inside. I'm not blaming them for the weather, but it made for a pretty poor stay.

Kim was a fantastic host, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. Once she learned there were children in our group, she brought over a high chair and cot, along with games, puzzles, and pool toys. The children also loved feeding the animals and collecting eggs in the mornings. We stayed for a lovely week at Easter 2023 in the Gite, which was spacious and had good facilities. Its pool was clean and had spectacular views across the French countryside. We also relaxed in the hot tub, and the children had a huge grassy garden to run around in and play football. There were several places to sit outside for lunch, drinks, or evening barbecues. The countryside was stunning, and we enjoyed visiting the local markets for delicious local food and wine. Thanks again for a lovely stay.

The hosts were happy to help with everything, from ideas for things to do and table bookings to feed for the nearby horses and goats. My 4 year son loved feeding them. Between the peaceful setting, lovely rooms, amazing food, stunning views, and jaw dropping pool with its beach area for little ones, it's hard to find any fault. I spent a week here and didn't want to leave. Highly recommended.
