Central Hôtel

A quiet, pleasant hotel with a nice courtyard and fairly spacious rooms. Simple but clean. Check-in is only available from 16:00-18:00.

It's in a quiet residential area. Street parking depends on luck, though I think most of the time you can find a space easily. The room and bathroom were tidy, and for the budget price the room was reasonable. Breakfast the next morning was above average and great. It's a nice part of the country, close to the sea. Now I know how they work, I'd book again. I had no other problems. I stayed one night, from 23-24th Jan 2024. My main problem was a communication mix-up. About 24 hours before check-in, I got a text in French with the code for entering the building. From 19:00 onwards I tried calling several times to let them know I'd be late, but nobody picked up, just a French voice message. I arrived around 22:30, and there was no one there. I got into the building with the code but didn't know where to go. I knocked on a resident's door for help. Thankfully, she directed me to the reception room, which was apparently closed, where I found an envelope with the keys inside. That’s how I worked out which key and room I needed. They should communicate clearly in English with foreign guests and be reachable by phone outside regular hours. I'd have given four stars if communication had been good and late arrivals could reach someone.

The calm feel and friendly staff stood out most. My room was comfortable and well kept, a nice place to unwind after exploring the coast. It’s especially handy if you arrive by train or want to visit the coastal areas around the French-Spanish border. I stayed here on my trip to Cerbère, and it was a very pleasant surprise. The hotel is simple, clean, and peaceful, close to the beach, train station, restaurants, and the town’s small streets. It has a charming local feel rather than that of a generic tourist hotel. For the price, it’s very good value, especially given the location and quiet setting. A few tips: sunset walks along the coast are beautiful, and it’s a great stop for photographers and slow travelers. The town itself is peaceful compared with bigger tourist destinations. A comfortable, authentic stay in one of southern France’s most underrated coastal towns.
