Auberge La Plaine

The old building and its magnificent courtyard are fabulous, and the pool has a lovely, bucolic feel. We only had breakfast, not dinner, and there was a great range of food, including plenty for vegetarians. The staff were welcoming and did their best to help us, and we appreciated our short stay despite a difficult night getting there. A tree had fallen across the road right by the entrance, leaving us stuck in the storm for two hours while we waited for the fire brigade to clear it. We had two very young children and two older people with us. We called the property but got no answer, and in the end we had to call 18. An emergency contact number would help in situations like this. It would also be good if voicemail was checked each morning. Even though the fallen tree wasn’t the property’s fault, a kind gesture afterward might have made us feel a little more comfortable and welcome after being cold and wet. We could hear everything happening in the hallway from our room, so the doors could use better soundproofing. Still, the staff were kind and tried to accommodate us. Thank you. I recommend this lovely place.

We stayed twice, for one night each time, and had the same room for two adults and two kids both visits. The room was good, though it got very, very hot and there was no air conditioning. Dinner was good too, but very pricey.

The owners have turned an old tangle of beams and stone into a beautiful, peaceful place, and you can feel the care they put into it. Auberge la Plaine sits among cornfields and sunflowers, with tastefully decorated rooms, traditional earthen tiles, and a calm courtyard at its center. In the evening, the courtyard becomes an outdoor dining room under the clear night sky, while the well regarded restaurant buzzes with a busy kitchen and a happy chef. I travel for work and stay in more hotels, inns, and B&Bs than most people. Usually things are pleasant and professional, but now and then a place stands out. Here, a couple's passion and warmth made what could have been an ordinary one night stay feel extraordinary. If they can make a single night this memorable, I can imagine what a week here might be like.

It’s wonderfully quiet here, right out in the middle of nowhere. The place is stunning, and with a superb restaurant and bar, what more do you need? I’d highly recommend it.
