Chateau De La Verie

We had a wonderful family break at this magnificent castle. The heated pool and forest walks were great. My only small issue was the bed, which was two single beds pushed together, and that disturbed my sleep a little.

The spacious rooms look out over the grounds, and the setting is ideal for exploring the Vendée region. We had a delightful, almost timeless stay in this beautiful château. The charming Dutch couple who run it really make an effort to welcome their guests. There are morning walks in the forest, a pool and tennis, and the delicious breakfast is served in one of the dining rooms.

We spent almost a week here with the whole family, ages 15 to 22, and extended family. Thanks to Nienke and the team for a lovely stay. The château is impressive and very well kept, renovated with care, and the Dutch hosts are lovely. The 17-hectare park, heated pool, tennis and table tennis gave us plenty to do, while the history, nature and quiet made it easy to relax. It worked well for a family with older kids, since some of us wanted to explore and others preferred to unwind or play sports. The location was the one drawback. The Vendée is wet and flat, much of it reclaimed from the sea, with few striking historical or natural sights. The beaches are beautiful, though, and if you look around you can find charming, classy towns and quieter spots.

Everything went smoothly, from booking right through to leaving. We were only there for one night, but the room was spacious and well equipped, with a practical, well-appointed bathroom. Our key and instructions were waiting at reception. The room was warm and we slept very well. Breakfast was very good, and the park view was magnificent. We'd gladly recommend the place and come back.
