Ibis Chalons En Champagne

We picked this hotel because it was close to the road we were travelling on. The room was nicely decorated, the bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning worked really well. The shower was lovely and hot with strong pressure. We had a burger for dinner, and it was tasty, with the look and flavour of something freshly made rather than taken from the freezer.

We’ve stayed here twice now and are very happy with the choice. It’s comfortable with dogs, and there’s a big green area around the hotel where you can walk them. The rooms are small, but clean and cozy, and it’s a good budget option with free parking. The front desk is open around the clock.

The location just outside Chalons, by the bypass, worked well for us, and there’s plenty of parking. Local services and restaurants aren’t far, though too far to walk, which we knew when booking. The rooms were clean and basic, as we expect from Ibis and why we use them regularly, but the hotel didn’t meet the usual Ibis standard. The corridor had a very strange, unpleasant smell. The beer pump wasn’t working and couldn’t be fixed, and after ten minutes the egg boiler still gave us a completely raw egg.

Chalons-en-Champagne is very close by, and it’s a lovely, quiet French city. My companion and I were here for over a week during a military exercise, and the food was very good at both breakfast and dinner. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful despite our limited French. I’m especially grateful to the night staff for making us feel so welcome.
