A beautiful place, way out from the crowds. Magnificent!

The pool was a big letdown. The website photos showed a very clean infinity pool, but on arrival it was poorly maintained, with low water and an infinity edge that no longer worked. It was lightly cleaned after we told the owners. We also found out only when we arrived that, because of sensitivity to waves, Wi-Fi was available on the terrace for just one or two hours a day at set times. There was no signal or internet inside the cottage, which was a problem for the two students in our group who had planned to work. The bathroom and toilet were another serious drawback. The shower was fine, but there was barely space to stand, and the door was so narrow that the tallest people could hardly close it. The owners were helpful and quick to respond to requests, though their initial welcome was cool. Two of the women greeted us warmly, while the others rarely returned our greetings even when we passed them several times. Despite all that, we have fond memories of the stay. The setting is magnificent, the cottage is very nice and had everything we needed. It's a superb spot, ten minutes from Chamborigaud, with endless forests and pleasant hikes nearby. The old-fashioned cottage decor suited the rustic surroundings, and the rooms were comfortable. The cottage was spacious enough for five, though it sleeps six, and had everything we needed for cooking.

It's the seclusion in nature that makes this place special. Anyone after peace and quiet will find it here. The rooms are clean, simply furnished, and charming, though you shouldn't come expecting luxury or full service. Dinner, if you want to join the other guests at the big table, is tasty and plentiful. You eat what's served, and that suits the spirit of the place. I found it hard to rate each category on its own.

The house is beautiful and very well kept, with magnificent mountain and forest views. But getting there means navigating a dangerous road full of hairpin turns. The welcome was mediocre: one owner barely greeted us, and we hardly saw the other. My daughter and I arrived in a thunderstorm and couldn't get a meal because we hadn't booked one. Guests at the neighboring gîte welcomed us. Without them, we would have had to drive back down to the village on that dangerous road. I find that unacceptable. A gîte stay should come with a warm, friendly welcome; otherwise, we might as well stay in a hotel.
