Hotel La Valle Blanche

The hotel is a short walk from the town centre, handy for restaurants and nightlife, while far enough away to stay fairly quiet. I was here with a group of six in February, and my room was clean, modern, warm and comfortable, with a view over the neighbouring river. Alex, the manager, and the other staff we met were very hospitable. Breakfast was simple but tasty, and the quiet breakfast room made for a relaxing start to the day. I’d happily stay here again when I’m back in Chamonix.

Good location, but breakfast was very basic. I couldn’t take a bath because there was no plug for the tub, and staff said they couldn’t do anything about it. The skylight was broken and wouldn’t close, so street noise nearby made it hard to sleep.

The location was the only good thing. The morning staff were friendly, but the afternoon guy was rude. When we asked what floor our room was on, he replied, “What do you think?” One of the beds in room 22 was broken, and his fix was to prop it up with books. My partner slept badly for two nights. The bar shuts at 11 pm, but nobody comes round to ask for last orders.

Nice location and a river view, but the bathroom was a mess. The shower hose came out of the bath tap, was snapped in half, and stuck between your legs. Water sprayed onto the wooden window, which had gone mouldy. The bathroom tap handle couldn’t turn to hot because it hit the mirror, and the wifi had no service.
