Hôtel La Verticale Chamonix

Our stay in August 2025 was extremely stressful. We found adult bed bugs and nymphs crawling in wall cracks in our room, and we have photos and video to upload with this review. The hotel suggested they might have come in our luggage or from recent guests, but the visible bugs in the cracks made us believe the infestation had been there for a long time. We also saw similar reports from previous guests, who seemed to receive the same dismissive response. After we asked, the hotel arranged somewhere else for our final night. But we had to cancel onward travel, pay for extra nights at another hotel, and have our belongings professionally decontaminated to prevent the bugs spreading. The hotel first offered 300 € in compensation, then declined to honor it and referred us to Booking.com. Booking.com refunded half of the total cost of our La Verticale stay. Bed bugs should never be in a hotel room, and we were very disappointed with how this was handled. Guests deserve transparency, and future travelers should know this seems to be a recurring issue at the property.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and spoke good English. My room was a decent size and bright for the time of year I visited. It was a great location for my short stay, within walking distance of the places and stations I wanted to visit. They also offered to help me get from the airport to Chamonix.

The location was great, right in the middle of town and within walking distance of everything. The staff were polite and spoke English. But the bathroom was tiny, and the room hadn't been cleaned properly. I had to ask the cleaners to vacuum, and they hadn't even left toilet cleaning spray. There was no kettle or telephone in the room either, which was inconvenient.

The rooms are very tiny and have bunk beds, yet the place is expensive. There's no parking unless you pay 17 euros a day. The staff were rude and incompetent. You can find much better places to stay in Chamonix.
