The setting is beautiful, and the restaurant reviews are glowing, which makes it a shame we left without giving it a try. We didn’t even speak to the hotel staff before fleeing. The brochure says the place was built in 1995, but the room decor looked more like it had been there since 1955. It was very old and unkempt. The room itself wasn’t dirty, though the terrace was dirty and seemed moldy, and at that level of neglect it was hard to tell. We also never found out whether there was a view of the lake.

The Family Room turned out to be a spacious two-bedroom apartment, and the kids liked the indoor pool. The location near Walibi Rhone Alpes and the helpful staff were both good. Cleanliness was generally okay, but there was dirty ice in the freezer, some mold in the shower, and holes in the carpet. The decor is very dated and damaged. If you want space, a handy location, and value for money, it may suit you. I’d avoid it if you’re at all picky.

We never stayed because the hotel was closed when we arrived on a Sunday, wet and hungry after cycling. After leaving Chanaz, we struggled to find anywhere open. The chef here was friendly and gave us wine and snacks, which made the rest of our journey much better. I hope we can come back sometime!

There’s a steep climb to get here, but it’s worth it. The food was delicious, staff were really helpful, and there’s secure parking for bikes. Thanks Lola.
