Kyriad Direct Chalon Sur Saone Nord

I left my room window open because the room smelled like it hadn't been aired out. My laptop, toiletries, bag, cash and cards were inside. I went to the car for 5-10 minutes to get food and drinks, then stayed in the room for the rest of the night. The next morning, after breakfast, €35 and four credit cards were gone. The window is around 2.5 metres up but seems easy to reach from outside, and I had seen suspicious-looking men moving around behind the hotel near some trees and woodland. There were also people hanging around the hotel who looked suspicious to me. I told reception about the theft straight away. The three people there couldn't speak English, and neither could the three French police officers who came. The receptionist showed me photos of my arrival and card payment, but I never saw the corridor camera footage covering the rooms. They said their boss had checked all the cameras and found nothing, but he never appeared. Since the theft seems to have happened while I was at the car, I can't understand how someone could get in at that exact time unless they knew I had stepped out. I suspect the hotel was working with the thieves, though I can't prove it. I felt the manager and hotel were robbing guests, and that the police weren't doing anything about it. The police only arrived to escort me out after I said I wouldn't leave until they came and filed a report. They walked me to my car, and I got nothing back. It felt like they had come to protect the hotel. Please avoid booking here. The same thing could happen to you, or worse.
