Manoir Camélia

It really felt like staying with relatives. The room was excellent, the hosts were friendly and helpful, and we ate well both at Manoir Camelia and at nearby restaurants. We spent 10 days in France, enjoying the relaxed neighborhood and the quiet towns around it. We drove ourselves, so I can't say what public transport is like. Most of the places below are under an hour away by car and take about half a day to visit. Manoir Camelia's hosts offered more information and gave us a folder of details to take along, which was very useful. Piguet, with its Wednesday market; Perigeux and St Front Cathedral; Brantome, a lovely village; La Rochefoucauld and Chateau La Rochefoucauld; Angouleme; Nontron, with supermarkets and laundry; Villars and Puyguilhem Chateau, where we had a very friendly guide and thought it was well worth visiting; Bourdeilles, a nice village; Saint Estephe, for a walk around the lake; and Limoges for shopping. With a two to three hour drive, you can also get to Bordeaux, Saint Emilion, Sarlat, La Rochelle, Cognac, and Saint Jean d'Angely. Champniers et Reilhac is walkable from there. Try Le Relais and give our regards to the owner! Watch the restaurant hours. Most serve only from 12:00 to 14:00 and 19:00 to 21:00, and won't serve outside those times. The owners of Manoir Camelia are more flexible, though. If a long day means you'll be back late for supper, talk to them and they'll do their best to accommodate you.

The house has so much character, with four beautifully decorated bedrooms and a charming host. Five stars from me.

The hosts were lovely and the place was easy to find. I had a comfy bed, an amazing breakfast, and a great evening meal. What more could you want?

Steve and Gill were fantastic from the welcome right through to goodbye. Our stay was first class, and I couldn't fault a thing.
