Hotel Des Couronnes Chateaudun

The place smelled strongly of cigarettes, and the morning staff brushed off complaints. In the bathroom, there was black mould all over the ceiling and the toilet had no seat. The radiator wasn’t attached to the wall either. The room was a bit dirty, the sheets looked slightly stained, and one broken shutter wouldn’t open while a desk blocked the other window from opening. We paid €75 for a twin room, more than both the brit hotel and ibis budget. Breakfast cost €7 per person and was just a few small torn pieces of baguette and two pain au chocolat that clearly came from a packet. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, even as a last resort.

We were two touring cyclists caught in cold, wet weather, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our bikes were safe under cover in the courtyard. The room was clean and comfortable for a low budget, though I’d have liked a bigger towel and hotter water. It’s central and tidy, with more character than similarly priced Ibis and the others. Breakfast at €7 was dull. Save your money and get a coffee and pastry in the square.

The rooms were really dirty and the bathrooms disgusting. The water was only lukewarm, and what bothered me most was having no heating, even though it was 14-15 degrees outside. They wouldn’t turn on the central heating.

There was nowhere else available, so we ended up staying here. The room was run-down and smelled of cigarettes, with cigarette burns on the bedside tables. Breakfast was dismal: one tiny ready-made croissant, stale bread, and coffee we had to get from the bar next door. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.
